Shab- E-Barat and Superstitious Beliefs

Shab-e-Baraat is the most precious night in Islamic history. It is the night of decisions like the decision of wealth, the decision of life and death decisions for creation, etc. Shab-e-Barat, the night of blessings, forgiveness, and dedication to freedom from hell-fire. The night comes mid of Shaaban (A night between 14th  and 15th  of the Islamic month of Shabaan. Many Muslims spend the whole night offering the Prayer, Nawafil, Reciting Quran, Zikar, begging for Magfirat and dua for Forgiveness.

Shab e Baraat, it is the night when Allah Almighty forgives his creature (men and women). Many Hadith is available related to this shab-e-Baraat 15th of Shaaban. Some as follows:

Our beloved prophet (PBUH) said these people never forgive

·        Mushrik:  Those who associate partners with Allah
·          Parents Disobedient: Those who disobedient towards their parents
·          Killer: The one who kills an innocent
·          Alcoholic: Those who are alcoholic
·          Backbiting ( Ghibat Karna): Those who backbite others

On that night Allah said to his creation “is there anyone needy, whom I should grant till the fajar time”.

Superstitious Beliefs

But nowadays in Pakistan, some groups of our country are celebrated this day 15th Shaaban just custom of distributing sweets, foods, and gifts. According to them, it is just a celebration of joy. On that day of Shab-e-Baraat, many customs and rituals are common in Pakistan and some other Muslim countries such as making sweets, Halwa, doing fireworks, etc.. have no reference in Islam and Hadith. These are just superstitious beliefs.

Another superstitious belief of that precious day of 15th  Shaaban ( Shab-e-Baraat) is that  “ there is a special tree upon whose leaves are the names of all human beings are drop this night and those people are dying this year must. These are all just superstitious beliefs that are not authentic and never belong to Quran and Sunnah. As Muslims, it is our duty that we must follow that occasion according to Islam, Quran, and Sunnah.

Fasting of Shab-e- Baraat

According to different Hadith, our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W) has to perform fasting in this precious month. The fast of 15th Sha’ban was the most loved of him. He used to fast in the whole month of Shabaan and this month belongs to HIM(S.A.W).

Let us make this night memorable by offering prayer, fasting, and zikar. Asking forgiveness from Allah Almighty.

Tonight, it is the night of highest rewards, remember me in your special prayers
